Superintendent Update - Updated 3 September 2010
September 2010
Status of Carts - 3 Sept - OFF
CORING - Hello members, as per the syllabus we will be coring the greens from the week commencing 6 September. Weather permitting we will start on Monday and finish Tuesday. On the main competition days the greens will be in play, although very rough. On the non comp days, temporary greens will be in play to allow the staff uninterupted access to the greens for ongoing renovation. This is a process that is necessary to keep the greens healthy all year round, so please be patient.
August 2010
Hello members. I am pleased to report that the Golf Course is holding up to the wet Winter conditions very well. The Course is open for play, however we have taken precautionary action to maintain the good condition by not allowing ride on carts on the Course. We recently added a local rule to allow players to mark their ball, clean it and replace it in the same spot. Although mud on balls is not a big problem, it does help you enjoy your game if you can wipe it off at this time.
Course Works:
Three Bluegums at the rear of the 11th Green were assessed as dangerous and have subsquently been removed during the week. Seven flowering gum varieties have been planted in their place. The area will soon be re sodded with grass from the back practice range.
8th Green Renovation
Please note that in preparation for the 8th green renovation in September we will be preparing a temporary green just past the fairway bunker. The preparation of the temporary green will be taking place from 16th June to 25th June. A temporary tee in front of the 8th fairway bunker will be in play for these dates. The hole will play as a par 3 and the necessary course rating adjustments will be undertaken for handicapping purposes.
Staff Movements:
During June 2010 Assistant Superintendent Michael Tindley advised the Club that he would be moving on after 10 years at the Club. Michael is looking forward to establishing his business in landscaping and irrigation. The Club wishes Michael all the very best and thanks him for his loyal support over the years.
Don't be confused - Mick Hyatt (Superintendent) is still at Latrobe and loving it!
New Appointment - Scott Irving has been appointed to replace Michael at Assistant Superintendent. Scott has worked at Latrobe with the team for the past 4 years and is very well qualified. He has worked in the turf industry since 1984 and has had several senior turf positions through his career.
