Garry Mansfield Charity Day
The Garry Mansfield Charity Day has become well entrenched in the Latrobe golfing calendar and is a fine way to remember a Club legend and raise money for the St Vincent’s Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery Unit.

The Garry Mansfield Charity Day is an annual event open to all golfers held at the Club in memory of Garry Mansfield. To commemorate his contribution to golf at Latrobe and to the wider golf world, and to assist in raising funds for the St Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, an annual charity day is held in May.
2009 Garry Mansfield Charity Day
The 2009 day was well attended with the weather smiling kindly upon the field some great golf was played. Included in the afternoon field were members of the Victorian State Squad who displayed their usual excellence at the game with many of them shooting under or even par. However no one was a match for the excellence of Ken Harvie who is gaining a reputation at the Club as a big occasion player. Ken shot 44 stableford points off a 12 handicap and pipped another club legend Jack Kuhnell on a countback. We’re sure Garry would have been proud of two of his old mates going to the line to win the men’s event. In the ladies Helen O’Kane was the narrow winner on 36 points with a host of players one shot back on 35 points. The Aggregate teams event was taken out by Jack Kuhnell and Bob Ferrall with a massive combined total of 82 Stableford points.
However this day is more than just about good golf and it was nice to see friends and family of Garry’s enjoying the day. The Latrobe Golf Club would like to thank the Mansfield family for their contribution to the day and also the Sponsors of the event:
- Alan Lennox Motors
- Huntingdale Cranes
- Lion Nathan
- Otis Elevator Company
- Porter Davis Homes
Latrobe Golf Club would also like to acknowledge the Victorian Golf Association for their assistance with the event as well as the many other supporters including trophy donors and raffle prize donors. The VGA has been a long time supporter of the Charity Day and we thank them for the printing of entry forms, publishing the entry form in the VGA Magazine and supplying councillors and state squad members to play on the day.
Whilst final figures are not available as of yet we would expect that the event will raise approximately $10 000 for the St Vincent’s Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery Unit and we thank their representatives for their tireless work on the day. We look forward to this event continuing into the future.
